Comments on: Moving From Blogger To WordPress

Just a couple of questions…

1/ Does WordPress allow you to forward to a URL with a sub-domain like: joeschmo.com/blog?

2/ I’m confused as to the difference between WordPress.org and WordPress.com. It looks like one has software and the other is web-based? Help.

3/ To import my Blogger blog to WordPress do I first set up a web-based account on WordPress.org or do I download software from WordPress.com? Totally confused.

Very helpful. I followed some of your tricks and learned a few of my own. I wrote this post about moving from Blogger to WordPress 2.7 using Godaddy Economy Hosting: http://ferrogate.com/2009/04/the-new-ferrogate-i-moved-from-blogger-to-wordpress.html . I managed to keep URLs intact without redirecting or doing any manual labor (very SEO like). Hope it’s useful to someone. I also talk about why WordPress is the more professional choice for blogging.

Thanks for a great blog, subscribing to it as we speak. Oh, and I agree: It takes about a week to migrate and setup your new blog.

Importing your files and comments from Blogger will take about 15 minutes, Setting up your re-writes will take a couple hours (depending on your coding skill level), QA could take a day…depending on how many posts you have, setting up your WordPress template could take a day to a month…depending on how crazy you want to get. This blog took me about a day to setup fully, but i didn’t try to create a branded and/or custom designed blog. I just wanted to make sure it was organized, I had the latest version, I had all my widgets installed, and my content written.

I would say plan on a week at least for a decently populated blog.
